Hubspot State of Marketing 2022
Understanding the current and future trends in marketing, helps us to evaluate where to invest an organisation's precious budget for the best return.
There are many sources of information. Today, I am harnessing the 2022 Hubspot Future of Marketing Report. If you have not had a chance to read this report I highly recommend grabbing a coffee, curling up, downloading the report and enjoying a fascinating read.
In this post I explore the top three social media content trends.
3. Mixed Reality
Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Metaverse. And by extension Gamification. This can seem quite daunting however can be an extremely powerful way to engage your audience, particularly if you are reaching Generation Z. At Lendlease, my team and I created Planet A, a gamified metaverse of the Milano Innovation District. We partnered with an awesome Australian company Virtual Method. The Co-Founder, Carli Johnston, who also happens to be the Co-Founder of Women in AR/VR Australia shares "Everyone has a skill to add in the creation of the metaverse - from story-boarding to user testing, the key is bringing together a diverse range of experiences and perspectives"
2. Short Form Video
From Instagram Live to Tik Tok, this is a rapidly growing content area and responds to the growing demand for super sharable, fun content. Shorter videos have a higher retention rate and are more likely to be watched to completion. This works well given that humans now have an attention span that is SMALLER than a goldfish. Yes you heard correctly. The average attention span for a human is 8.25 seconds compared to the gold fish which averages at 9 seconds. (Source Cross River Therapy).
This is the fastest growing share of spend also for marketers in Australia and is expected to continue for years to come.
Given this, I Have created for you, a short form video to summarise these trends. Enjoy :)
1. Live Stream Video
Did you know that 80% of people would rather watch a live video than read a blog (Food for thought as I type this blog.....)
Influencer Neil Patel, "social platforms basically act as a new version of traditional live television. And when you go live they will try to spread your broadcast over not just your network, but also your network’s network, thus massively increasing your audience reach."
As you are building or adjusting your marketing plans for 2023-24, take time out to review how your content is performing to the latest trends and requirements. And always remember, the human attention span is now smaller than a gold fish!
